Standard Response Protocol

Fullerton Public Schools has always placed security and safety as a high priority. Working with staff and students to properly respond to dangerous situations has been an integral part of our training and educational programming, and we continue to look for ways to improve our practices and protocols in the event of emergencies.

This past fall the Fullerton Board of Education adopted the use of the Standard Response Protocol (SRP)– an emergency response program and training for staff and students that comes highly recommended by the Nebraska Department of Education.  While some of the actions are not new to our current safety practices, there are responses we are now implementing that better address security practices and allow for improved communication during threats and dangerous situations.

On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, the school district’s threat assessment team presented the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to the staff and students. The information and education provided was to better prepare and support our responses to critical events. Highlights of the information taught have been placed on our district website and on this information sheet. The highlights include the very basic actions that our students and staff will take during each of the four major events: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter.

Beyond the basics of the SRP presentation, the threat assessment team included discussion involving the importance of reporting and sharing critical information. The SRP is a reactive response to events, but the most important factor to safety and security is the sharing of information to help prevent incidents from ever occurring.

As we move forward to provide for the students and staff of Fullerton Schools we will continue to look at best practices for security and safety. By implementing the recommended procedures and protocols, addressing facility safety needs and working closely with our local law enforcement, we will strive each day to create a safer and more enhanced learning environment
